Hepatitis
The Viral Hepatitis Program was established in September 2000 to centralize hepatitis prevention activities in the Disease Control and Environmental Epidemiology Division (DCEED). The Program seeks to prevent the spread of viral hepatitis in Colorado, limit the progression and complications of viral hepatitis related liver disease, and advocate for viral hepatitis policies and resources.
Current activities in the Program include: surveillance for acute and chronic hepatitis B and hepatitis C, perinatal hepatitis B case management, hepatitis immunization for high-risk populations, hepatitis C testing, professional and public education and referral services for persons currently infected. The program collaborates with other programs in DCEED including Immunization, Communicable Disease Epidemiology and the HIV/STD Section. External partners include: Local public health agencies, Colorado Department of Human Services, Colorado Coalition for the Homeless, Hep C Connection, and Team Hep C. These projects are designed to integrate hepatitis prevention into existing testing and treatment services; and to provide information and services to those who are or may become infected.
The Colorado Viral Hepatitis Conference was held in Denver and Grand Junction in Spring of 2011.
