Marriage and Dissolution Verifications

If you know the county where the the decree was granted, contact the clerk of the district court for that county. Vital Records has an index that covers the years 1900-1939, and 1968 to the present. 

• The 1900-1939 microfilm index is only available at Vital Records, the Denver Public Library, and Colorado State Archives 

This information is an index only and the information that will be provided is: 

• the names of the parties;
• docket number;
• date and place of the dissolution, annulment or separation;
• date of marriage; and
• children of marriage

Since 2003, the Office of the State Registrar of Vital Statistics has operated a web site where the general public may access information on marriages and dissolutions of marriage. As the issue of identity theft has grown, concerns have been expressed regarding the potential for misuse of this information. As a result, these records are now treated confidential consistent with other vital records in this state.

• Agencies that believe they have a direct and tangible interest in being granted access to researching these records need apply to the Office of the State Registrar. An Agency Application needs to be submitted to the Colorado Dept. of Health and Public Environment Registrars Office.

• Individuals needing verification of a Marriage or Dissolution need to apply to the State Vital Records office. An application may be obtained at: Marriage Verification Application or Marriage Dissolution Verification application . Learn how to order online or in person here. 
• For information on Common-Law Marriages, please see our Frequently Asked Questions page. Documentary evidence is not required for a common-law marriage to be fact. The Colorado Department of Law has an information sheet that may be useful.
