Remediation Section

The Remediation Section regulates the assessment and remediation of petroleum releases at over 1,000 contaminated sites within Colorado.  It is the goal of the Remediation Section to identify, assess, and clean up contaminated sites while protecting human health and the environment.

The Environmental Protection Specialists (EPSs) of the Remediation Section are responsible for ensuring that Owner/Operators of regulated petroleum storage tank systems and their representatives comply with all applicable statutes and regulations with respect to releases of petroleum products to the environment.  The EPSs enforce petroleum storage tank laws and regulations by reviewing geological and engineering reports related to releases of petroleum products, request and approve site assessments and corrective actions to mitigate environmental contamination, monitor the progress of corrective actions, explain storage tank laws and regulations to the public, review and provide technical responses to reimbursement applications, and assist in the development of policies and procedures affecting internal and external customers.
