Employers with job openings urged to participate in this free event

(DENVER) – Today, the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment announced two relief efforts for businesses impacted by flooding in September – extensions to the due date for unemployment premium payments and an exemption from rate impacts for unemployment claims filed against them.

Deadline to file premiums and wage reports extended to November 30

Many employers in the nine-county region that saw massive flooding (Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder,Clear Creek, El Paso, Jefferson, Larimer, Logan and Weld) experienced damage to their business. To provide some temporary relief, the Division of Unemployment Insurance is extending the duedate for these businesses to file wage reports and pay their third quarter premiums.

The new due date is November 30, 2013, and late penalties and/or interest normally accrued will be waived, as long as the premium/wage report for the third quarter report is filed and paid by that new date.

Businesses that are located outside of the covered disaster areas but whose records are maintained within the disaster area should contact the Division of Unemployment Insurance to discuss an extension and requests will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Companies that require an extension to file and/or pay their premium/wage reports or who have questions about the extension of the filing deadline should call 303-318-9100 or 1-800-480-8299 (outside the Denver-metro area).

Unemployment claims filed against flood impacted businesses will not impact experience rating

The flooding forced many businesses to temporarily shut down and lay off employees. Businesses that have seen unemployment claims filed against them as a result of the disaster will not be charged and their unemployment experience rating will not be impacted.

Impacted businesses should call 303-318-9100 or 1-800-480-8299 (outside Denver-metro area) and press option 5 for more information.

Businesses impacted in any of the other areas that have received the Governor's disaster declaration should call 303-318-9100 to discuss relief options available.
