SNAPQA

MISSION

The Mission of the Colorado Department of Human Services, Office of Performance and Strategic Outcomes, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Quality Assurance Division is to provide accurate and timely data and analysis to Federal, State, and County staff to enhance the integrity of the Colorado food Stamp Program.

SNAPQA determines if clients receiving food assistance benefits are eligible and receiving the correct amount of benefits. Each month, QA staff reviews a statistically random statewide sample of SNAP cases using specific federal review methodology. The number and type of payment errors are identified and reported to a federal database. The Federal staff then re-reviews a sample of the state QA reviews to confirm the validity of state error rates. The federal agency uses QA findings to determine whether the error rate is:

  • Acceptable compared to the national error rate;
  • Too high and needs improvement; or
  • Low enough to warrant enhanced funding for the state.
