The Colorado Department of Human Services (CDHS) and the Department of Health Care Policy and Finance (HCPF) joined together, along with many stakeholders, to form the Psychotropic Medications Advisory Committee. The committee was charged with developing recommended guidelines for the State of Colorado to ensure the appropriate use of psychotropic medications for Colorado's children and youth in out-of-home care and to integrate medications into comprehensive physical and behavioral health care.
In July 2013, the Psychotropic Medications Advisory Committee published Psychotropic Medication Guidelines for Children and Adolescents in Colorado's Child Welfare System - Solutions for Coordinated Care.
The Psychotropic Medications Advisory Committee meets quarterly. Communication and Coordinated Care, Data and Red Flags, and Health Passport subcommittees also meet regularly.
