Pastoral Care Services

The Department of Pastoral Care Services assumes responsibility for extending spiritual care to those persons in the hospital, respectful of their personal integrity and particular chosen religious traditions.

This ministry addresses and functions in four primary areas:

  • The department provides spiritual care to both patients and staff as requested.  Spiritual care includes pastoral visitation, pastoral care, pastoral counseling, liturgical services, and providing religious materials when requested.
  • The department supports similar spiritual care by local clergy and pastorally competent, delegated religious and/or layperson.  The department support of such ministers is provided through professional pastoral consultation and solicitation of appropriate persons to serve specific liturgical/ritual needs of patients.
  • The department will facilitate patient groups in the hospital regarding spiritual and /or religious issues based on patient or staff request or clearly indicated value regarding patient care and/or treatment.
  • The department will be available and responsive to hospital requests for education of staff as well as students and interns of other clinical disciplines regarding spiritual care and mental health.

In collaboration and cooperation with other clinicians and department at CMHIFL, the Pastoral Care Services Department participates in the assessment and treatment regarding total patient care.
