The Social Work Department at CMHIP consists of one administrative director, one program chief, two program supervisors, and one supervisor over the family education/recovery and substance abuse programs. There are 25 unit social workers, two treatment providers, two substance abuse counselors, one social service provider, and three part time Social Workers. Social Workers have the opportunity to work in different treatment programs, which include Admissions, Psychosocial, Cognitive Behavioral and Competency Restoration.
Social Workers are intricately involved in all aspects of patient treatment. They work closely with the team psychiatrist and are members of the multi-disciplinary team. They complete bio-psychosocial assessments, which are utilized to determine treatment needs of patients. The assessments also identify risk factors and barriers, and outline specific disposition plans and issues which need to be addressed in outpatient treatment. They provide a variety of psychotherapeutic interventions, including groups and individual and family therapy, to address these specific treatment needs.
Social Workers initiate and maintain contact with families and community resource agencies. In addition, Social Workers are responsible for assuring the patients have access to outpatient treatment services, entitlement benefits, and safe and secure living arrangements.
The Social Work Department also has a student internship program for Bachelor and Master level students. We offer our students a rotation in each program listed above for a well rounded educational experience. Students come from universities in Colorado, as well as New Mexico.
