Steve ErkenBrack is currently the Vice President for Legal Affairs of Rocky Mountain Health Plans.  Prior to joining Rocky Mountain Health Plans in 2002, he was a partner in Hale Hackstaff Tymkovich & ErkenBrack, with offices in Denver and Grand Junction.  From 1993 to 1997, Steve served as Colorado's Chief Deputy Attorney General under Gale Norton.  From 1986 to 1993, he won three elections as Mesa County's District Attorney.  Prior to this public service, he was a partner in the Grand Junction law firm of Beckner & ErkenBrack in the 1980s.

Steve's legal practice has emphasized litigation, with a focus that shifted over the years from criminal prosecution to health care and business.  Steve has more than 20 years of experience as a trial attorney, trying hundreds of cases, including multi-week trials ranging from first degree murder prosecutions to complex business litigation.

In the 1990's, ErkenBrack was selected by the Colorado Supreme Court to serve as Chair of the Colorado Board of Law Examiners, and he was unanimously chosen by Colorado's District Attorneys to serve as President of the Colorado District Attorneys Council.  He has also served on the Board of Governors on the Colorado Bar Association.

Steve is currently the Chair of Club 20's Subcommittee on Health Care, and serves on the Boards of Directors for March of Dimes and for Partners of Mesa County.  In August, 2006, Steve was appointed by the Colorado legislature to serve on Colorado's Health Care Reform Commission.

Steve received his undergraduate education at the United States Naval Academy and Washington & Lee University, and he earned his law degree from the University of Colorado.  Steve has been happily married to Lysa, a Pediatric and Neonatal Nurse Practitioner, since 1979.  Steve and Lysa have three adult children: a special education teacher in an inner-city school in Washington, D.C.; a Ph.D. candidate in linguistic anthropology at the University of Pennsylvania; and a college senior who is fluent in four languages, and has lived in Germany, France, Brazil and Colorado.  The family greatly enjoys their dinner conversations...
