Who needs an aquaculture permit?
Those aquaculture facilities that broker, propagate, sell, trade, or transport live native or nonnative fish or viable gametes.
Exceptions:

Facilities that sell fish meant for the pet or aquarium trade

Brokers that never take physical possession of live fish or viable gametes

Persons that sell live fish for use as food; the fish must be from a tank that is not connected to state waters

Bait dealers who obtain live fish from a source that has been inspected and certified free of disease by the Colorado Division of Wildlife
How do I get an aquaculture permit?
You will need to fill out an aquaculture permit application and submit it with your $100 fee on a yearly basis
Do I need any other licenses or permits?
The Department of Agriculture only issues aquaculture permits. Depending on the nature of your business, you may need to check with the Colorado Division of Wildlife to see if you need any import, stocking, or other permits.
Do I need any inspections or testing?
All fish coming into the state and all fish in the state must be tested for Viral Hemorrhagic Septicemia (VHS). The Colorado Division of Wildlife may require testing or inspection for other diseases. To request an inspection of your facility, contact Mandy Colburn at (970) 534-3468.
