What is the Colorado Noxious Weed Management Team?

The Colorado Noxious Weed Management Team (CNWMT) functions according to a 1996 Memorandum of Understanding signed by fourteen state and federal agencies.

The team's purpose is to:

  • coordinate noxious weed management activities across jurisdictional boundaries
  • raise the level of awareness about noxious weeds
  • ensure that noxious weed management is a high priority within our respective agencies

The team, led by State Weed Coordinator Kelly Uhing, meets regularly in Lakewood, Colorado.

How does the program work?

Field-going weed managers across Colorado may participate in the program in two ways:

  1. Use the "Request for Partnership Evaluation " to request the CNWMT's review and evaluation of a known partnership facing challenges in handling significant or emerging weed management issues.
  2. Use the "Nomination Form " to nominate an outstanding partnership or individual effort that's making a difference in Colorado's Weed Management.

Partnership Guidelines:

Successful partnerships...

  • are founded on common courtesy, respect, and diplomacy, cemented by a common vision and a commitment to success
  • start small and grow larger and more complex through experience gained from previous efforts
  • creatively seek new talent essential to success as project complexity increases
  • develop formal but flexible agreements that define responsibilities, expectations, and accountability between partners
