The definition of a brand for the purposes of this article is a permanent mark on the hide of an animal registered with any State as a livestock brand. Freeze brands are considered permanent marks. Tattoos are not considered as brands.
The most effective and permanent method of identification is the mark produced with a hot iron.
Branding your animal with your current Colorado recorded brand is considered a legal application of that brand on your animal. It is lawful to mark cattle and horses or sheep and goats with the livestock owner's Colorado recorded brand.

Regular hot irons, electric irons or freeze irons are acceptable for use in applying your Colorado recorded brand to your animal(s). In Colorado, brands are recorded for cattle and horses together and separate brands are recorded for sheep and goats together.
