This new, 3-year program targets seven currently uncommon invasive weeds in the Eastern High Plains of Colorado.  The purpose is to help build local partnerships to address and eradicate these seven weeds before they gain a significant foothold on our high plains. 

The target specie are:

• African rue (Peganum harmala)
• Diffuse knapweed (Centaurea diffusa )
• Russian knapweed (Acroptilon repens )
• Spotted knapweed (Centaurea maculosa)
• Leafy spurge (Euphorbia esula)
• Dalmatian toadflax (Linaria dalmatica)
• Saltcedar (Tamarix spp.) Only in the Republican Watershed

The High Plains Weed Specialist will:

• work with community partnerships
• provide educational materials
• give presentations and assist with current methods (scouting, mapping, controlling)

Communities are encouraged to form partnerships including:

• Counties
• Conservation Districts
• Watershed associations
• Landowners
• Organizations
• And others

Grant funding will be available for the 2008, 2009, and 2010 summer seasons.
